About the role
We're looking for a Frontend Engineer to join our remote-first engineering team. You'll build the user-facing applications that power Mixedbread's AI search platform — from developer dashboards to interactive documentation. Working with Next.js, React, and TypeScript, you'll craft experiences that make complex AI technology feel intuitive and delightful.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain our website and platform applications
- Design and develop intuitive user interfaces that make our AI search workflows accessible and efficient
- Develop interactive playgrounds for embeddings, reranking, and search features
- Optimize frontend performance for sub-second page loads and smooth interactions
- Contribute to our shared component library and design system (shadcn/ui)
- Work with backend engineers to design and consume APIs
- Write clean, maintainable code that scales well
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of professional frontend development experience
- Expert knowledge of TypeScript, React, and modern JavaScript
- Strong experience with Next.js (App Router preferred)
- Proficiency with Tailwind CSS and modern styling approaches
- Strong eye for design and user experience
- Deep understanding of web performance optimization and Core Web Vitals
- Experience building accessible, responsive interfaces
- Familiarity with state management patterns and data fetching strategies
- Knowledge of modern web development tooling, practices, and trends
- Self-directed with ability to own features from design to deployment
- Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a remote-first environment
Nice to have
- Experience with monorepo tools (Turborepo, pnpm workspaces)
- Experience with design systems and component libraries
- Experience with crafting animations and micro-interactions
- Familiarity with real-time technologies (WebSockets, Server-Sent Events)
- Experience with testing frameworks (Vitest, Playwright, Testing Library)
- Understanding of AI/ML concepts, embeddings, or vector search
